The world's first 'sperm race' is being organised in Los Angeles, California next week to raise awareness against declining male fertility rate. The event will reportedly be hosted on April 25 by a startup named Sperm Racing which has raised $1.5 million to support its efforts.
According to commercial real estate media outlet Traded, the startup founders are four entrepreneurs - Eric Zhu of Thor Ventures, Aviato, Nick Small (youngest sold-out founder in crypto), Shane Fan of Waterfall Market and Garret Niconienko from MrBeast's team. The race will pit two spermatozoa measuring 0.
05 mm long from University of Southern California (USC) and University Of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) on a 20 cm microscopic track mimicing the female reproductive system. "It's about making male fertility something people actually want to talk about, track, and improve. We're taking a topic no one wants to touch and making it interesting, measurable, and weirdly changing this paradigm, because health is a race. And everyone deserves a shot at the starting line.
" According to Sperm Racing, the average sperm count in men worldwide has dropped from 101 million sperm per milliliter of semen in 1973 to just 49 million in 2018. Interestingly, the event is being endorsed as a full fledged sporting event as it will include commentary as well as betting. The organisers believe the venue Hollywood Palladium with a capacity of 5,000 spectators will be sold out.
