PETALING JAYA: A lorry driver who tried to get away with producing a fake competent driving licence (CDL) and goods driving licence (GDL) could not escape the scrutiny of Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers. Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan said the lorry was stopped by patrolling officers at the Saujana Putra Toll Plaza on Sunday (Oct 20). When asked to show them his papers, the lorry driver allegedly produced the fake licences, he said.
"Initial investigation showed the lorry driver bought the licences via social media," Sinar Harian quoted Azrin as saying on Tuesday (Oct 22). "Each licence costs RM3,000 to RM5,000 and the driver is believed to have been using them for two years," he added. Azrin said the 28-year-old lorry driver took the online examination at a driving institute but failed.
He added that the lorry was seized and taken to the Shah Alam JPJ office. "The offence is being investigated under Section 108(3)(e), for falsifying documents, of the Road Transport Act 1987. "If convicted, the offender can be fined RM20,000 or jailed five years, or both," he said.
