Loretta Delaney OBITUARY Loretta (Gorman) Delaney, of Farmington, beloved wife of John B. “Jack” Delaney and devoted educator, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 13, 2025, her 93rd birthday. Born April 13, 1932, in Waterbury, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Louise (Flanagan) Gorman.
Loretta received her bachelor’s degree from Danbury State Teacher’s College and went on to earn a master’s degree from Fairfield University. Her life’s work was rooted in education, where she poured her heart into teaching and supporting children. She began her career in Waterbury, CT, teaching for four years before continuing her work in New Britain, CT.
Later, she became the homebound teacher for the Farmington, CT school district. She often made home and hospital visits to teach children unable to attend school due to illness, ensuring they never felt forgotten or left behind. Her boundless love for family was evident in every part of her life, from her extensive ancestry research—tracing generations across the globe with special trips to Ireland and Australia—to the countless hours spent cheering on her sons from the sidelines.
Into her 70’s, mom was an intrepid traveler who often went solo. Her greatest joy was traveling to watch her boys play soccer and baseball; always their loudest cheerleader and proudest fan. She was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
Loretta and Jack enjoyed spending time at their homes in Farmington, CT, Ascutney, VT, and Cornfield Point, CT. They were members of the Shennecossett Yacht Club in Groton, CT. Besides her husband, Loretta is survived by her children, Lorrie Lusebrink and her husband Brian of Trumbull; JB Delaney and his wife Nora of San Jose, CA; Eddie Delaney and his partner Lizett Escorcia of Pacifica, CA; her grandchildren, Shannon Mariconda and her husband Brian of Lordship; Heather Lionetti and her husband Gregg of Wallingford; Jack Patrick Delaney of Trumbull and her great-grandchildren, Andrew and Alex Mariconda and Anna and Maria Lionetti.
She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Betsy Delaney, her brothers, John Gorman, James Gorman and Fr. Joseph Gorman and her sister, Mary Lou Marciano. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St.
