His last game of tennis was against Wu Yibing at Stuttgart on June 12, 2023. A serious wrist injury has kept him out since then, meaning it will be a monster 566 days between matches if his first round match is on the opening day of the Brisbane International. Kyrgios's long-awaited return has seen him pass the time as a commentator, while also turning his hand to being a talk-show host.
But now he'll finally get back onto the court in the Australian summer. Canberra's Nick Kyrgios will play at the Brisbane International. Picture by Keegan Carroll Tennis ACT bosses were hoping to lure Canberra's big tennis star to their Lyneham tournament, which begins on December 31.
But those hopes appear to be dashed with Kyrgios opting to head to Brisbane instead. Brisbane International tournament director Cam Pearson pointed to Kyrgios's victory in the tournament back in 2018. Kyrgios has repeatedly spoken of his desire to return to the winner's list during his injury-enforced exile from the game.

Brisbane will form part of Kyrgios's preparation for his first tilt at the Australian Open since 2022, when he lost to Daniil Medvedev in the second round. "Nick, who has had success here in the past, will kick off his 2025 comeback in Brisbane and I am excited, as I know all tennis fans will be, to see him back on court showcasing his best tennis and entertaining the crowds in a way that only Nick can," Pearson said.
