Look Ahead: Chasten Buttigieg at Westminster University; “Cirque du Soleil” on ice at Maverik Center; Jim Bone & the Dig celebrate their CD release at The State Room; Alton Brown talks food at Kingsbury Hall.

April 8 Chasten Buttigieg at Westminster Author, teacher and LGBTQ+ advocate Chasten Buttigieg will speak Tuesday, at 5 p.m., at the Vieve Gore Concert Hall at Westminster University, 1840 S.

1300 East, Salt Lake City. He’s best known as the husband of Pete Buttigieg, the former transportation secretary. He published his memoir, “I’ve Got Something to Tell You,” in 2020; his new children’s book, “Papa’s Coming Home,” is scheduled to be published in May.



Admission to the event, part of Westminster’s Anne Newman Sutton Weeks poetry series, is free but reserving seats is recommended via the Westminster website . April 10-13 ‘Cirque du Soleil’ on ice “Cirque du Soleil: Crystal,” a touring production that puts the company’s famous acrobatic talents on ice, will make a stop, Thursday through next Sunday at the Maverik Center , 3200 S. Decker Lake Drive, West Valley City.

The production boasts “seven jaw-dropping traditional circus acts” adapted for an ice rink, combining skating with aerial work and acrobatics. Showtimes are Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m.

, Saturday at 3 and 7 p.m., and next Sunday at 1 p.

April 11 Dig this at The State Room Jim Bone is a veteran of Salt Lake City’s music scene, with past stints in Jerry Joseph & the Jackmormons and Purdymouth. Bone — whose music encompasses rock, bluegrass, country, jazz, punk, funk and gospel — and his current band, The Dig, are set to celebrate the release of their new CD, “City by a Dead Lake,” with a show Friday at The State Room , 638 S. State St.

, Salt Lake City. A bunch of the band’s musician friends are also expected to perform. Doors open at 7 p.

m., show starts at 8 p.m.

April 12 Alton Brown “The Last Bite” If you spend any time watching Food Network, you’ve probably seen Alton Brown — he’s the channel’s resident culinary science nerd, as well as the host of “Iron Chef America,” “Good Eats,” “Cutthroat Kitchen” and “Food Network Star.

” Brown will bring his live stage show, “The Last Bite,” to Kingsbury Hall, 1395 E. Presidents Circle (200 South), Salt Lake City. Brown will present two shows, at 2 and 7 p.
