London is forecast to see snowfall this weekend as the Met Office has its say on the possibility of a white Christmas. Hopefuls had been holding on to the perfect Christmas morning , opening their curtains to a blanket of snow. But as forecasts come in it is appearing unlikely despite temperatures dropping to -6C in parts of the UK.

London is still set to see snow this weekend though, according to one weather forecaster, as temperatures drop to near freezing. The first set of snow is expected to fall on Sunday, December 22 at 9am, according to WXCharts. Temperatures will stay around 4C with the majority of the snowfall towards the south and west of the city.

Just a few hours later snow is forecast to kick-off Christmas week with it expected to drop again on Monday, December 23 at 12am as temperatures reach 2C. Despite the early Christmas covering the hopes of a white Christmas have been dashed as the Met Office confirmed in a Youtube forecast video. Honor Criswick, meteorologist with the service, said: "If that's what you're after (a White Christmas), I might have a little bit of disappointing news.

.. We are unlikely to see any sort of widespread snow as we head into Christmas, sorry if that is a little bit disappointing for you.

" While it won't be the white Christmas you imagined it only takes a single snowflake to fall on December 25 anywhere in the UK to be classed as one. Technically the last white Christmas was in 2023 with 11 per cent of stations recording snowfall, despite none reported on the ground. The meteorologist continued: "Even if we see a single snowflake observed in Scotland over higher ground that technically means that it's been a White Christmas, but overall looking at the setup, it's not looking like we are going to see any kind of White Christmas.

"Best of the weather if you are looking to head out for a walk is likely across the South and Southeast of England with perhaps just some wet and windy weather moving into the far Northwest of England."
