Young’s number one single Messy has racked up 597,000 chart units in the first few months of 2025, ending the first quarter at the top of the leaderboard. Despite being released in June 2024, the song grew popular in December when it made the top 10 on the UK Official Christmas Chart and hitting number one in the new year for four consecutive weeks. The 24-year old Londoner was nominated in 2021 for the Brits Rising Star award, and was also up for Best Pop Act this year – but missed out to Jade.
Close behind Young is Rose and Bruno Mars’ pop hit APT, followed by Gracie Abrams That’s So True at number three on the official singles charts. Meanwhile dominating the albums charts is Espresso singer Sabrina Carpenter with Short N’ Sweet, as she claims the biggest album of 2025 so far with 196,000 chart units this year alone. It comes after Carpenter secured her first two Grammy awards earlier this year, picking up best pop vocal album award for her sixth studio record and best pop solo performance award for her summer hit Espresso – while also scooping the Global Success Brit Award.
At number two in the album charts – and claiming the title for biggest album of the year so far for a British act – is Sam Fender with People Watching. According to the Official Charts Company, Fender’s third album broke records when it was released in February for being the fastest-selling vinyl album by a British act this century – with sales of 43,000 in its first week. The album became the biggest seller overall and biggest physical release of the year to date with 100,000 copies sold across all physical formats.
At number three is Ed Sheeran’s tour collection album – +–=÷× – with US pop star Chappell Roan in the top five for her album The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess..
