Times News Network Ludhiana: Two locksmiths allegedly drugged a couple on the pretext of repairing two almirah locks at a house in Prem Singh Nagar, Civil Lines and stole cash and gold on Sunday evening. The crime came to light when the couple regained consciousness after a few hours. The family claimed to have incurred a loss of over Rs 10 lakh.

Division number 8 police lodged an FIR against two unidentified persons on the complaint of the victim, Aman Lekhi, who works in a bank. Lekhi told the police that he and his family live on the first floor of the house while his brother lives on the ground floor. Two of the almirahs in their house needed repair.

On Saturday, his wife heard a vendor's call from the street, offering lock repair services and asked him if he could repair locks of the almirah. He said he could and his wife asked him to come on Sunday. "On Sunday afternoon, two men came to repair the almirah locks.

I was out at the time, so my wife called me, after which I went home. When the accused were repairing the locks, we started feeling dizzy and sleepy; maybe as the accused sprayed something on us. We both fell asleep and woke up late in the evening.

Then we found that the accused had broken the lockers open and stolen gold jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20,000 cash," he said. Thereafter, Lekhi informed the police. ASI Gurmel Singh, the investigating officer, said that police registered a case under sections 331 (3) (house trespass), 305 (theft), and 3 (5) (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of BNS against the unidentified accused.

The ASI said that the police have a picture of one of the accused. According to the victims, their son is in the habit of making videos and clicking pictures on his mobile phone. He was making a video when the locksmiths went to their house and one of the accused was captured in the video.

Police are trying to trace the accused, for which more CCTV cameras installed in the area are being scanned. MSID:: 120279590 413 |.
