Locals concerned for wildlife have spoken out after a sheep got its head stuck in a discarded pot of paint at the British near Abersychan. In a post on community page Blaenavon and Beyond Facebook, user Lianne Faye Thomas said: "The rubbish up there is absolutely disgusting", as she linked a photo of the trapped animal. The post immediately gained traction with lots of people annoyed by fly tippers.
Pauline Quinn said: “What is wrong with these people? An area of beauty spoilt by their laziness and absolutely no care for the wildlife like that poor sheep.” Nathan Gould posted “I might be wrong, but I believe this part of the British is privately owned; meaning the council won't collect it.” Local litter picker Claire Newell, 53, said: “The sheep is just awful.
I think it’s an environmental disaster and the litter is going into the river. “There’s fish in there like trout and it’s going in there and it’s causing an environmental disaster." Writing on its website, a spokesperson for said: "Dumping household, industrial and commercial waste illegally is a serious criminal offence which can result in unlimited fines and or a prison sentence.
This includes domestic waste dumped near public litter bins. "Any vehicle used to fly-tip rubbish can be seized by the police and the vehicle owner can be prosecuted, even if they were not responsible for the fly tipping. "Torfaen Council will take legal action against anyone caught fly tipping waste.
" In a separate comment issued to the Argus by Torfaen Council, a spokesperson for the body added: “We’re currently trying to establish ownership of the land and looking at options for safe removal.”.
