After two months outside record territory, North Platte’s city sales tax proceeds leapt in September to fall just short of their all-time monthly high. Net September proceeds from the combined 2% local sales tax totaled nearly $1.473 million, according to Friday’s latest monthly figures from the Nebraska Department of Revenue.

That was 4.5% better than September 2023, when the state returned almost $1.41 million to North Platte, and $2,734 shy of May’s record-setting month of almost $1.

476 million. Lincoln County’s 4% lodging tax also set a September record, bringing in a net $140,945 for tourism promotion from the county’s hotels and motels. That was 9.

8% higher than the month’s previous record of $128,317 last year. September’s hotel-motel tax return pushed the county’s net collections past the $1 million mark for the third straight year. Net lodging tax proceeds reached a record $1.

27 million in 2023. Lincoln County came within $732 of its first $200,000 lodging tax month in June before net proceeds failed to reach record levels in July and August. North Platte similarly came up short of breaking sales tax records for July and August, breaking a 16-month streak.

Calendar-year net proceeds for 2024 stand at $12.17 million with three months of figures to go. The Revenue Department collects local hotel-motel and sales tax and returns net proceeds about six weeks after each month ends.
