
HERSHEY — Wilkes led, 2-0, after two periods and went on to pick up a 3-1 victory over Lebanon Valley College on Friday night in MAC men’s hockey. Miles Harrington’s power-play goal opened the scoring, and Easton Stafford’s goal off the assist from Luke Dobles grew the Colonel lead to 2-0. Wilkes (13-7-2 overall, 13-3-2 MAC) added an empty-net goal from Joe Johnson with 42 seconds left seal the victory.
Wilkes is back on the road Saturday, heading to Arcadia. Alvernia 7, King’s 2: At Revolution Ice Centre, Alvernia jumped out to a 5-1 lead and rolled to the MAC victory Friday in Pittston. King’s Ethan Hersant had the big night, recording a hat trick.
He scored once in the first period, and added two goals in the third. King’s (8-12-1, 6-10-1) was scheduled to play Saturday, but the match at Lebanon Valley was postponed because of weather. Stevenson 6, Misericordia 2: At the Toyota SportsPlex, tied, 2-2, after one period, the Mustangs scored four unanswered to pull away for the league win.
Nicholas Solema and Ryan Karbach each scored in the opening period for the Cougars. Brenan Vettraino and Zach Ross each had assists Friday. The Cougars (3-12-3, 3-11-2) host Alvernia on Saturday night at the Toyota SportsPlex.
Women’s ice hockey Alvernia 3, King’s 1: In Reading, tied, 1-1, after one period, Alvernia scored two unanswered goals to pick up the MAC win. King’s Abby Barlocker started off the match with a goal, scoring off assists from Kait Wolf and Jordan Dittmar. The Monarchs (5-12-3) travel to Lebanon Valley on Saturday.
Men’s volleyball Virginia Wesleyan 3, Wilkes 1: At the Marts Center, starting off a three-match weekend, Wilkes lost in four sets (25-20, 20-25, 25-17, 25-14) to the Marlins. Jackson Shafer led Wilkes with 13 kills, and Lucas Mages added 10 kills. Joshua Conley and James Brust combined for 32 assists, and Shafter finished with nine digs.
Wilkes (4-8) hosts Southern Virginia and Widener on Saturday with the first match set for 10 a.m..
