Local boxers on the third annual Ian Gibson Tribute Show Sept. 21

With the stereo blasting songs like AC/DC’s “Long Way to the Top,” trainer Brian Jones lead 20 boxers through a 45-minute workout at the Vernon Boxing Gym. Among those doing a series of high-paced exercises - including sit ups, pushups and shadow boxing with light weights and 15 minutes of heavy-bag work - were five fighters who will take part in the third annual Ian Gibson Tribute Show Sept. 21 at the Vernon Recreation Centre auditorium.

Taking to the ring will be Tyler Krowchuk, Tyler Collins, Roland Ingram, Parker Stadynk and Aiden Paddy Mullens. Trainer Al Harper anticipates there will be 13 bouts. “They’ve been training all summer,” he said, “Five or six days a week.



” Mullens, 16, who lives in Lake Country, has only been boxing for one year and this will be his first fight. “My mom wanted me to take up a sport and although I’ve enjoy wrestling with my friends, I decided to try boxing,” he said. Weighing in at 170 pounds, Mullens is excited for his first fight.

“We’ll have some fun,” he said. Jones thinks that Mullens will win his match Tickets for the event are $20 for general admission and $40 for ringside seats. Children under 12 are free.
