Lloyds and Halifax and other bank branches set to close in April

Halifax, Lloyds and Bank of Scotland are among the major banks shutting branches across the country in the coming weeks.

Hundreds of bank branches disappeared from the high street last year as they shut their doors for good, and a similar number set to shut in 2025. Among the locations set for closure this year are 12 UK bank branches that are shutting down in April. Halifax, Lloyds and Bank of Scotland are among the major banks shutting branches across the country in the coming weeks.

All of the businesses have cited the increase in the number of people banking online rather than in person as one of the reasons behind the planned branch closures. The banking giant said it was shutting the branches in June, while also cutting hours across 36 sites and switching 18 to be counter-free.

A Santander UK spokesman said: “As customer behaviour changes, we are ensuring that our branches remain fit for the future. “Our new combination of full-service branches, alongside work cafes, counter-free branches and reduced hours branches, aims to provide the right balance between digital banking and face-to-face money management and guidance.

” He added: “Closing a branch is always a very difficult decision and we spend a great deal of time assessing where and when we do this and how to minimise the impact it may have on our customers.” This is the full list of Santander banks set to close their doors for good this year, according to PA.
