By Jimmy Chazama A group of musicians, including producers, have teamed up to organise a concert to celebrate the 25th anniversary of seasoned gospel musician Lloyd Phiri . Being Phiri’s 25th anniversary in music, the team has decided to hold a concert at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on April 21 2025. Dubbed Silver Jubilee Celebration, the concert will feature acts such as Kamuzu Barracks Gospel Singers, Great Angels Choir, Evance Meleka, Shammah Vocals, Apostle Norman Phiri, Maggie Mangani, Debbie N and Kondwani Chirwa.
Chairperson for the organising committee, Precious Chikatiko, said at a press briefing in Lilongwe that this would be a unique concert. “We call upon people to come in large numbers to enjoy live music performances. The concert is focusing more on worship simply because Lloyd Phiri is better known for doing praise and worship,” Chikatiko, who has produced a number of Phiri’s music video’s, said.
He said Phiri and the Happiness Voices had contributed immensely to the body of gospel music in the country and that it was only right to celebrate the 25th anniversary in such a way. Phiri, who is a producer, said he felt loved with the gesture by fellow musicians and producers. “As indicated by the organising team, this concert is unique in that there will also be a praise and worship session.
This will be the time to worship and praise God. “We have invited religious leaders to pray for people although it is a gospel concert,” the ‘Sikuthekera Kwanga’ creator said. Phiri, who won the MBC Entertainers of the Year award in 2003, said they would shoot the concert live.
With several albums to his acclaim, the ‘Afuna Ulape’ and ‘Sindifuna Zamasewera’ star has worked with artists such as Allan Ngumuya, Ethel Kamwendo Banda and Maggie Mangani..
