By Evolve Editors Besides becoming a star gymnast, Livvy Dunne ‘s “ambition” was to know more about Paul Skenes before they began dating, as their relationship did not take off from the start. GQ Sports got the “IT” couple talking about their romance, which blossomed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, even after an early setback nearly derailed it. “He [Skenes] wouldn’t follow me back on Instagram,” Dunne recalled, but she was more determined than ever.
All it required was patience and their busy athlete schedules to align so the sparks between them could finally fly. She dished that her boyfriend “was shy,” which he cleared up as “kind of reserved,” and the former reiterated, “Reserved, yes.” The Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher revealed he initially knew who Dunne was. “Frankly, everybody knew,” he mentioned, explaining that his girlfriend’s social media presence even back then, in 2023, was massive for a college-going student.
However, Skenes continued, “She didn’t know who I was,” which the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model denied. Dunne claimed she “would see him around every now and then” and thought who”this tall, mysterious man that never smiles” was. It still took a great deal of patience and Paul Skenes getting the hint for him to finally start dating Livvy Dunne and their relationship come to life.
The Rookie of the Year eventually asked her out for ice cream despite not particularly liking the treat but only because she needed to have “something in my hand while we’re talking or whatever.” That was it for Dunne, who claimed that after their first two dates, she realized, “Oh, I really like him.” Two years later, the couple appeared smitten with each other and had already marked huge milestones in their respective sports journeys.
