Latest Liverpool transfer news and gossip as the Reds have been linked with a move for Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl Liverpool are reportedly in the market for a new midfielder from the Bundesliga. Reports have claimed that Freiburg star Merlin Rohl is a player of interest to the Reds ahead of the January transfer window. According to Bundesliga reporter Christian Falk for Sport Bild , Liverpool have placed Rohl on their shortlist of transfer targets, with scouts already watching the Germany Under-21 international in action.
The report claims that Freiburg were aware of interest from the Reds during the summer transfer window, which prompted the decision to award the player a new contract. Rohl signed a contract extension with Freiburg earlier this summer, two years after signing for the club from Ingolstadt in 2022. The club did not state when the fresh terms run up to, only that it is an "early contract extension".

Subsequent tests confirmed that Rohl has suffered a syndesmosis tear in his ankle and will be sidelined for several months while in recovery.
