Liverpool have confirmed that Manchester United's trip to Anfield on Sunday afternoon is set to go ahead despite fears following heavy snow in the north west area. There were worries that the game might be postponed due to the weather overnight. An amber warning was put in place by the Met Office as a result, effective from 6pm on Saturday evening and through to midday on Sunday.

In a statement at 9:31am on X, formerly known as Twitter, Liverpool stated that "a safety meeting was held this morning to assess the weather and travel conditions" ahead of the game against United. They added that, at this stage, the game was set to be played as planned but a further meeting would take place at 12pm to confirm whether or not the most-watched fixture in club football would go ahead. Now, Liverpool have released another statement confirming that the game is on.

"Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned. Two safety meetings were held earlier to assess the weather and travel conditions. "We thank everyone involved in helping us to get this game on today.

If you’re travelling to Anfield then please take extra care. We look forward to seeing you there." With the game set to go ahead as planned, United will be keen to end a run of four straight defeats across all competitions.

Ruben Amorim's side have not won since beating Manchester City on Sunday, December 15, losing against Tottenham, Bournemouth, Wolves and Newcastle. It's a run that has seen them drop to 14th in the Premier League table. They have collected just 22 points from their 19 matches and sit just seven points above the relegation zone.

As for Liverpool, the Reds are flying high at the top and would extend the gap to second-place Arsenal to eight points with a game in hand if they beat United. Arne Slot's side have lost just one game in 18 top-flight matches this season, with that coming against Nottingham Forest in September. Get United transfer news and updates on WhatsApp!
