“The success or failure of the council very much depends on the councillors’ capability and commitment to serve.“Use your professional knowledge to improve service delivery, more so as the government is planning to raise the allowances of councillors,” he said at the swearing-in ceremony of 32 Kapit District Council (KDC) councillors yesterday.He also directed KDC to hold monthly full council meetings instead of every quarter, and for the councillors to work closely with elected representatives and government department heads in resolving the people’s grievances.



Penguang, who is Marudi assemblyman, also challenged KDC, which received a 3-star rating by the federal Housing and Local Government Ministry last year, to match the 5-star rating achieved by Marudi District Council.Leading the lists of councillors is new KDC chairman Andy Lawrence, who is assisted by deputy chairman Martin Bilun.The other 30 are Kambira Anyan, Fatimah Ilam Abdullah, Jimat Jarmit, Thomas Lagan Busang, Judson Jarrau, Mohamad Junaidi, Jimmy Jadam Eba, John Lang Likong, George Lusat, Kiprawi Mohamad Mokhtar, Jamu Ajok, Lawing Luat, David Wong Hau Ching, Sibat Nyantau, Tommy Wong Chong Wei, Francis Wong Ming Kong, Cody Ma Young Jie, Onyo Leju, Rudy Diniesca Levoh, Senglang Anjan, Danggang Ugik, Labang Jaon, Aman Yakow, Mathew Ngo Awing, Willy Batang, Mewa Agoi, Madu Lanting, Raymond Ako Vincent, Imong Meringgong, and Samuel Saw Wei En.

Their appointment is effective April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2027.Previous KDC chairman Lating Minggang, whose term expired on March 31, was also present, and he received a certificate of appreciation from Penguang.Others present were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat; Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan; Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang; and Baleh assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai.
