Three Albany City Council seats and the mayor's position are up for grabs on the Nov. 5 ballot, and this is the spot to find out the latest results as they come in Tuesday night. Altogether, there are eight candidates, including the uncontested mayor's race.
At a minimum, the council will see two new faces after incumbents, Matilda Novak and Ray Kopczynski , opted not to rerun. One incumbent, Marilyn Smith , who represents Ward 3, is running for reelection and faces a challenger. Mayor Alex Johnson II, who has served as mayor since 2021, is running unopposed.
The remaining three races for ward 1 and 2 are also contested. Watch this article for updates of the Albany City Council races. Ward 1 has easily been the most contentious race as three candidates vie for Novak's open seat.
Several campaign fliers have been circulating about this race, and Mid-Valley Media checked the facts on those claims . Real estate agent Courtney Stubbs will be facing off with business owner Trevor Lee and former Greater Albany Public Schools board member Michael Thomson . In Ward 2, Millersburg's current but scheduled-to-retire city manager, Kevin Kreitman is facing off with Army veteran Carolyn McLeod .
In Ward 3, incumbent Smith, who formerly worked as Albany's communications officer and a reporter at the Albany Democrat-Herald, will be going against machinist Bryan Munson.
