Liquid Intelligent Technologies has completed a fibre expansion project in Botswana. The fibre connects Ramatlabama to Ramokgwebana and covers 730km. This project builds on other investments in the region such as the Gaborone Metro Ring project.
Liquid Intelligent Technologies has announced the completion of a fibre extension project connecting towns along Botswana’s A1 road for the first time. The fibre extension runs from Ramatlabama to Ramokgwebana and covers 730km in the Southern African country. Towns such as Francistown, Mahalapye, and Palapye can now leverage Liquid’s fibre network.
“This fibre extension project is a milestone for Botswana, strengthening the country’s economic hubs and connecting major commercial centres. The high-speed connectivity access is set to benefit urban centres and rural communities along the route and further expand our presence in Botswana and the continent through the One Africa Digital Network. It will bring additional multi-terabit capacity and resilience to the region,” said Odirile Tamajobe, Managing Director of Liquid Botswana.
More than just connecting towns in Botswana, the project connects the country to Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan. This strengthens the country’s cross-border digital infrastructure. Liquid has been investing heavily into Botswana.
Earlier this year it completed the second phase of its Gaborone Metro Ring project . This project brough high-speed connectivity to local businesses which in turns helps to grow the local economy. This latest expansion builds on that further with Liquid reporting that the expansion was made possible thanks to help from local contractor companies.
“Liquid’s new fibre network, supported by local contractor companies, is a significant step towards advancing Botswana’s national digital transformation strategy. This reinforces the country’s goal of becoming a digitally connected and economically empowered nation. The network delivers critical connectivity for businesses and enterprises in major towns along the route, including significant commercial and retail centres, financial services, and educational and hospitality entities,” the company said.
The company’s fibre network stretches through Africa and totals 110 000km. It also provides satellite connectivity in order to provide high-speed internet connectivity to as many Africans as possible. This network has the added benefit of prioritising traffic from within the African continent, reducing latency.
Liquid was also the first provider to connect Cape Town and Cairo through a direct terrestrial link..
