Link between stress and cancer to be discussed in public lecture

The University of Brighton's inaugural public lecture of the academic year will be given by Professor Melanie Flint, and will concern the link between stress hormones and cancer. Professor Flint, co-director of the Sussex Cancer Research Centre, will speak about the way that stress contributes to cancer and how its impact can be mitigated. The lecture will also touch on the implications of stress on chemotherapy and immune therapies.

The talk is scheduled to take place during the university's Global Challenges Week, which celebrates staff and student work that addresses 'major global issues.' Inaugural lectures are delivered by newly appointed professors, and are designed to shed light on research being carried out by Brighton academics to address challenges faced by people in the region and beyond. Lectures also give insights into how academics became experts in their chosen field.
