The trailer opens with the mother-daughter duo getting told by a fortune teller that they would experience a circumstance that had already happened in the past. “That’s interesting. Your lifelines.

It’s like they have intersected before. You’ve walked in each other’s path. You learned a lesson.

A lesson that may serve you again,” said the psychic. Despite the familiar out-of-body experience for both Anna and Tess, this time, the body switch also affects the former’s children, her biological daughter and soon-to-be stepdaughter. A post shared by IndieWire (@indiewire) The narrative is set to progress as the family navigates the myriad challenges and aims to carry on with their respective lives despite the unexpected supernatural switch.

The trailer also teases the debut of Filipino-Canadian actor Manny Jacinto in the franchise, where he plays Anna’s husband. Chad Michael Murray’s return as Jake, Anna’s teenage love interest who’s now a motorcycle-riding heartthrob, is also featured in the trailer. Aside from the aforementioned, the film also stars Mark Harmon, Rosalind Chao, Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, among others.

The first film became a box-office smash, grossing $160 million against a $20-million budget. “Freakier Friday” opens in theaters on Aug. 8.
