
LIMERICK Ladies footballers suffered a last gasp 0-10 to 0-9 defeat to Cavan in their Lidl Ladies National Football League Division 3 final round fixture played at Crosserlough on Sunday afternoon. A point from Cavan's Deirbhile McCaffrey with the final kick of the game saw the already promoted home side secure a dramatic one point victory. Limerick had already secured their Division 3 league status for 2026 prior to throw-in on Sunday.
The Shannonsiders finished their National Football League Division 3 round robin fixtures in sixth place in the table, with two wins and a draw from their seventh games. Cavan led Sunday's game by three points at half-time, 0-7 to 0-4. Limerick's scorers in that opening half included Roisin Ambrose, Deborah Murphy and Andrea O’Sullivan.
Visitors Limerick were level with 10 minutes remaining, 0-7 each, thanks to points from Caoimhe McGrath, Caoimhe Macnamara and Murphy. Cavan then hit back with a brace of points to lead 0-9 to 0-7, before Limerick rallied to draw level with points from a further Murphy free and Karen O’Leary. McCaffrey's late point then earned victory for the home side by the narrowest of margins.
