COUNTRY singer Marion Kelly has reflected on her journey in TG’s Glór Tíre and looks forward to her next musical steps. Marion may not have made it through to the Grand Final of Glór Tire, but her time on the show has given her a platform she intends to use. The singer proudly represented Limerick as well as being the sole competitor in the semi-final from Munster.
“This has been a great platform and a lot more people are aware of me now,” Marion said following last Tuesday night’s Glór Tire Semi-Final, which was broadcast live on TG4. Marion, who lives near the iconic rugby ground of Thomond Park in Limerick City, enjoyed a strong run in the competition, where she showcased her impressive vocals on folk ballad ‘Only Our Rivers Run Free’, the Lady Gaga/Bradley Cooper ballad ‘Shallow’, which she sang with Irish Country star, Mike Denver; and in the semi-final show, she performed Katrina & The Waves’ ‘Walking On Sunshine’ and ‘Will You Go, Lassie, Go’, which she sang as Gaeilge. “I’ve always tried to be a little bit different,” she said, “keeping it in the lane, but also not too centre of the lane. For ‘Will You Go, Lassie, Go’, learning it in Irish was actually OK. I just had to unlearn it in English.
” While Marion would have loved to have made it through to the Grand Final, she still described her Glór Tíre journey as “great and enjoyable”, and knows the exposure it has given her will be invaluable to her music career. “I've met loads of lovely people on the show,” she says. “It’s definitely a good platform so I'll just keep going.
” Marion has also been delighted by the response her Glór Tíre run has received in her native city. “There’s been great support back in Limerick,” she said, “a lot of people approaching me, and who voted for me, sharing things online and stuff like that. So I saw a lot of support and that I’ve been building an audience as well.
It’s great.”.
