INDIANAPOLIS — The 13 Weather Team is tracking a snowy and cold weather pattern with a high-impact winter storm arriving on Sunday. Now is the time to prepare your home and family and be thinking about adjusting travel and plans for Sunday and Monday. Light snow is in the forecast for tonight with an inch or two possible, especially north and east of Indianapolis.

A few slick roads will be the main weather impact through early Friday. Here is the timeline: Friday will be cold, but dry with highs in the 20s. Take advantage of the dry weather on Friday and Saturday to prepare for the winter storm Sunday.

A winter storm watch has been issued for Sunday and Monday. This will be a high-impact storm, with the potential of 6"+ of snow. Travel will be difficult at times on Sunday and Monday and there will be closings and delays.

Please check back for updates. This storm is still off the coast of the Pacific Northwest and we will have more information on the exact track and totals. Totals depend on the track, as the highest totals will be north of the track of this storm.

I know there are snow maps out there showing 6-12" or 10-15", but winter storms are complex with possibility of warmer air wrapping into a storm or a dry slot cutting down snowfall potential. There is a discussion on this winter storm on WTHR+ streaming on demand . Once the storm departs, we will track Arctic air that will bring the threat of below zero temperatures next week.
