The final words of Liam Payne to his girlfriend Kate Cassidy have been disclosed. The former One Direction star , who was 31 years old, tragically passed away on October 16, 2024, after a fall from the third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires. His partner, aged 26, has now opened up for the first time about the last moments she spent with Liam before his untimely death in Argentina.
She revealed that he said to her, "You're acting like this is the last time you are ever gonna see me again." These chilling words were spoken as Kate was about to leave Argentina for a flight back to Florida . Liam's cause of death was determined to be polytrauma – multiple traumatic injuries – which occurred after a night filled with substance and alcohol consumption.
He died just days after Kate left after spending two weeks in the South American country together. Kate shared these intimate details while discussing the late singer's battles with addiction and mental health issues on the On Purpose podcast hosted by Jay Shetty. During her emotional recollection of their final farewell, Kate said, "I remember sitting there with him and I was going on and on and on about how much I love him and he laughed and interrupted me and was like, 'Kate you're gonna miss your flight your car is in the driveway.
'" She recalled her final moments with him, filled with laughter, not realizing it would be their last encounter. "To look back in time and know that that was the last time I was ever gonna see him again is just so chilling," she expressed. Kate reflected on their parting, "Our last goodbye, I wouldn't have wanted it to be any differently.
" In the candid interview, Kate shared the unpredictable nature of Liam's condition. "He would take five steps forward then three steps backwards," she noted. She continued, detailing his struggle, "He could better himself but then that switch would just flip where he would wake up in the morning and he felt a certain type of way.
" Kate also spoke about Liam's reluctance to leave their home or hotel room, often requiring encouragement to step outside. "It was at times a lot for me, and I am not a professional," she admitted. "I never was and I am so young and I really just tried to do everything that I could.
" She emphasized a hard-learned lesson: "One thing people need to realize is that you cannot fix somebody and you cannot cure somebody – they can only really do it themselves. "You can help and support them through the better and worst days but you can't cure them in addiction and mental health," Kate continued, "In order to help and care for somebody else you have to remember to care for yourself, and I think that's something at times I was forgetting to do." Kate opened up about Liam's battle with addiction, revealing, "If he could have chosen to be sober for the rest of his life, he would have been.
I didn't really understand it at first, so I think at the beginning of the relationship, I remember being, like in my head, 'Oh can't you just not do that?' But it's not as easy as that. I finally realized this was something he could not choose." Click here to follow the Mirror US on Google News to stay up to date with all the latest news, sport and entertainment stories.
