In a tragic turn of events, the late singer Liam Payne was reported to have told a young woman "I'm so f***ed up" just moments before his fatal fall. The 31-year-old former One Direction member spoke with a woman at the same Buenos Aires hotel shortly before he tragically fell from his balcony in Argentina on Wednesday, October 16. He exhibited "disturbing and weird" behaviour, including smashing his laptop after reading an email, which was visible to others around him.

A woman, referred to as Rebecca (a pseudonym), is believed to be one of the last individuals to talk to Payne before his death. She captured several images of the 'Strip That Down' artist in the hotel's lobby before the tragedy. Following the incident, a post-mortem examination revealed that Payne died from multiple traumas and "internal and external haemorrhage" due to a fall from the third-floor balcony of the hotel. The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office No 16 of Argentina released a statement indicating that they are treating the case as an "inconclusive death" based on the findings of the report. Rebecca, a 28 year old visitor from Washington DC, described an unexpected half-hour meeting with Payne in the hotel's foyer on Wednesday afternoon before his death.

She claimed that despite being scheduled to check out in the morning, Payne had not yet left the hotel, reports the Mirror . During their conversation, Payne reportedly confided in her, saying: "I used to be in a boy band - that's why I'm so f**ked up." "I came into the hotel, and he was waiting by the elevator, and it was so clear he wanted someone to recognise him, there was something a bit desperate about him," she told the Daily Mail. The IT consultant continues her story, explaining how she and her friends recognised him but remained unimpressed. "When the lift came he suddenly said to us without any prompting: 'Yes, I'm Liam! ' really drawing it out, and then said 'All right come on you lot, get in the elevator with me, I love a cuddle'.

" She said she chose not to join him, but one of the other girls in the group started conversing with him. "And then he grabs a girl who I think was with him and starts fake choking her, only lightly, but the others thought it was really disturbing," Rebecca said. Rebecca returned to the lobby 10 minutes later, followed shortly by Liam, this time carrying a laptop and began reading emails for all to see.

She remembers seeing the singer open an email that "obviously upset him". ' and started bashing the computer on the ground," she said. Rebecca recounted how the staff and patrons at the upscale establishment were taken aback, prompting her to approach the troubled celebrity to ensure he was alright.

She says of Liam's reaction to her concern, "But he just kind of grunted," before adding, "Then he said 'I used to be in a boyband. That's why I'm so f**ked up'." The prosecutor's office disclosed that they had interrogated five witnesses to piece together the events of October 16 at the CasaSur Hotel in Buenos Aires' Palermo district.

It has been reported that the hotel's employees made two emergency service calls; audio from these calls revealed that one employee sought help for a guest who was "intoxicated by drugs and alcohol". Upon arrival, police officers and paramedics pronounced Liam deceased at the location, and his remains were subsequently taken to the judicial morgue. The prosecutor noted that the artist was by himself when the fatal fall happened and it looked as though he was "going through some kind of outbreak due to substance abuse".
