LGSHA 2024: Spencer Park Dark clinch B-grade women’s premiership in derby grand final

Spencer Park Dark took out Lower Great Southern Hockey Association B-grade premiership on Saturday in impressive style defeating their fellow club rivals Spencer Park Light.

Spencer Park Dark beat fellow club side Spencer Park Light for the Lower Great Southern Hockey Association B-grade premiership in impressive style on Saturday. Despite being an all-Park affair, there was no love lost between the two as Dark belted four goals including a stunning brace from Denise Famlonga, to notch a 4-2 victory. Tahlia Scott and Claire Hard each netted important goals in the victory, while Monique Mackenzie and Charlotte Whitfort scored crucial goals for Park Light.

Park light shot stopper Ella Wright was named best-on-ground in the losing grand final after a courageous effort in goals under enormous pressure from her opponents. Manypeaks took out the men’s B-grade premiership with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Griffins Vets. A goal from the stick of Peaks’ Samuel Graham was all that could separate the two sides while teammate Joseph Loynes was named player of the match.



The girls’ 10/11/12 grand final between Spencer Park and Griffins Blue came to an enthralling end with the latter clinching the victory after penalties. After the scores were locked at 3-3 at the final buzzer, the two sides were forced into penalty strokes where Griffins Blue held on for a gripping 6-5 triumph. Philippa Wilson was named best-on-ground in the stirring win.

Cameron Newbold Cameron Newbold Griffins made it two from two in the 10/11/12s after their boys side defeated Park 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Fergus Sandilands. A Zoe Mills-inspired Spencer Park took out the 7/8/9 girls premiership with a dominant 6-0 victory over Griffins. Mills netted a sublime hat-trick and was rightfully named best on ground, while Leyla Page scored an equally as important brace for Park.

Bethel defeated Mt Barker 4-2 to clinch the 7/8/9 boys premiership Ben Blechynden scored a goal on his way to best on ground honours. Mitch Eley, Oscar Cameron and Tom Carman also scored goals for Bethel, while Oliver Lawson and Jacob Hatto found the back of the net for Mt Barker. Griffins secured the 5/6 mixed division title over Spencer Park in unusual circumstances.

The two were locked at 2-2 at the final siren, but Griffins were announced as winners after finishing higher on the ladder. Robert Fergie netted a goal in his sides premiership triumph and was named best on ground..
