Private 5G is a customized network solution designed for specific spaces such as smart factories and logistics centers. The technology utilizes dedicated frequencies to deliver high-speed data transmission with improved stability and security. According to market research firm MarketsandMarkets, the global private 5G market is projected to grow from approximately $2 billion last year to $11.
8 billion by 2028, representing an average annual growth rate of 42%. At the exhibition, LG Electronics will demonstrate its Mobile Manipulator (MM) robot, which combines autonomous navigation with a multi-joint robotic arm, operating on the private 5G network. The robot, a key smart factory solution, can independently navigate production lines while performing various tasks including parts transport, product assembly, and inspection.
The company emphasized that fast and stable networks like private 5G are crucial for the robot’s operation, as it must continuously communicate with surrounding devices and process environmental data from various sensors. LG Electronics will also showcase its digital twin technology, which creates a three-dimensional virtual world identical to reality and enables integrated control through data-based connections between the physical and virtual environments. Visitors can experience receiving CCTV data through the private 5G network in the virtual space and participate in remote collaboration demonstrations.
The company’s private 5G technology has been certified by the Korea Association of Network Industries as compliant with domestic network standards, validating its core technological capabilities. On November 8, LG Electronics signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) to pilot private 5G network solutions at various railway facilities, including Seoul Station and the Siheung Vehicle Depot. “We will continue to expand our private 5G network solution business based on our technical and business capabilities developed across various spaces,” said Lee Jun-sung, head of of LG Electronics’ Private Network Business Development Department.
