Lewis requests SLED investigate former detention deputy

Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis has requested the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) investigate a former Hill-Finklea Detention Deputy after an allegation of a possible assault was brought forth. Lewis contacted agents from SLED and requested a complete case review of the assault and misconduct. “When we became aware of the allegations, I immediately contacted SLED to investigate,” Lewis said.

“SLED’s case findings resulted in a former Detention Deputy facing charges. We expect all employees to uphold their oath and the law.” Any details surrounding the investigation or case will be provided by SLED.
