Article content CREDIT TO FORD Re “‘Inflated’ $48M estimate to remove bike lanes show city staff can’t be trusted” (Brian Lilley, Nov. 14): It’s true that the Toronto city staff estimate for bike lane removal is excessively high and isn’t credible. They’re just scaremongering in an attempt to block the province’s intention to eliminate parts of bike lanes on Bloor St.

, Yonge St., and University Ave..

Putting bike lanes on Toronto’s major arterial roads was a terrible idea that contributed greatly to traffic gridlock. These lanes should only be placed on side streets. Note that traffic congestion costs the city $11 billion a year.

Thus, the Ford government deserves credit for adopting this much needed bike lane removal policy. Claudio Ceolin Toronto (The city council has shown themselves incompetent and incapable of making redo able decisions. They are so extremely ideologically driven, the province had to step in) TRUDEAU’S INHUMANITY Re “So many mouths to feed” (Kevin Connor, Nov.

13): Toronto’s “Who’s Hungry Report 2024” revealed that four out of five of all newcomers are relying totally on food banks. This is clear evidence that Canada’s immigration system has hit the wall. Canada doesn’t have the capacity to accommodate any more people until we can stabilize the immigration system.

This means Canada gets to the point where we can both offer reasonable housing opportunities for all new immigrants and a choice of positive employment opportunities so immigrants can support themselves. What Justin Trudeau has done to immigrants in Canada is inhumane. Immigrants now come to join a ‘beggar’s class’ where they must line up just to get food and live homeless on cold sidewalks, which is no life at all.

Hopefully common sense will take hold and the government will also realize that to avoid Trump deportation, the 14 million illegal immigrants in the United States will head to Canada shortly and ask for admission as refugees, and should be told our cupboard is bare and Canada is closed!
