Citizen responsibility is a virtue Citizens of America, land of the free and home of the brave, are being challenged now by a few million right-wing voters who wish that a few powerful billionaire elites be allowed strict control of our country. America has been, for nearly 250 years, a team effort to form a more perfect union by we the people of many states. Only the civil war has broken us.
We don’t want to go there again. The fact that the United States Constitution has provided us with a rule of law that has worked all these years is consequential. Millions of people not paying attention to wisdom is evidence that the million or so Americans who would prefer we stay the course need to stand up and shout out without fear that we like democracy and what our forefathers had to say.
We, the humanitarian elite, cannot fear these millions of low-information voters with big billionaire backers who got us into this debacle! Certainly, they were fooled by biased news organizations that Trump would lower prices, etc., etc. They can no longer spin the blame game on Biden.
The dissemination of false news has helped millions of our citizenry vote for the wrong administration and we with the majority of our citizens should be righteously upset. To think that we can no longer protest for fear that Trump would punish us for speaking the truth is beyond the pale. Citizen responsibility is a virtue! Rick Sutherland, Lyons Two different kinds of ice storms You saw it.
You heard it. March left the party like a drunken sailor. Hail damaged some roofs, including at the Dairy.
It did not, however, dampen the spirit of the Boulder Symphony. The Symphony was able to relocate its performance, on March 29, to Grace Commons Church. I felt that this performance was stellar.
Thank you, to the Grace Commons Church for opening its doors and hosting this event. We were reminded of the importance of community. I now want to talk about another ice storm.
It is ICE, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
ICE is threatening our constitutional rights, including the right to free speech. On March 25, masked ICE agents arrested a Tufts University graduate student, Rumeysa Ozturk. An Op-Ed that she had co-authored was cited as one reason for her detainment.
Ozturk is studying childhood education. The article that she helped write, reminded the reader that children in Gaza are starving. Why is telling the truth a crime? More ICE storms are forecast or in the words of Dylan, “There’s a cold wind that’s gonna blow.
” We need to change the forecast that threatens our Democracy. And we can. Kristen Marshall, Boulder The difference between red and blue It is such a curiosity that with all of our television news watching, pundit digesting, and print and fake news reading, no one seems to be talking about the primary difference between Red and Blue.
As much as I abhor referring to us and them, in my experience, the main point of contention is very basic , runs very deep and affects most of the conversations about our differences. Those who call themselves Red see the government as the enemy and to be feared. Their policies are shaped around being prepared to fight the government and to mistrust its motives.
Whereas those who consider themselves Blue, would define the government as Us. Their policies are shaped around people choosing their leaders and voting out those who refuse to work to provide opportunities for all. I am curious why this difference is not being highlighted by the media .
