Motivation factor Is there a particular factor which drives the motivation of the PNG Kumuls and Tonga Mate Ma’a rugby league teams to significantly high levels? Whatever it is, this appears to be missing from our very our Fiji Bati? Even our Flying Fijians appeared on holiday mood last week against Scotland. All in all, we have much to learn from the Kumuls and Mate Ma’a but the sooner we do the better. I would love to see more local based talent playing in the Bati side and I am hoping that our Flying Fijians take on Wales with passion and pride.

Floyd Robinson, Micronesia After 1987 In his illuminating analysis on how things have unfolded after the first military coup of 1987, senior USP academic Dr Subash Appana informs us that many of the Indo-Fijians who were forced to flee their homeland to seek out new opportunities abroad are “fabulously rich now and contribute significantly to the Fiji economy” (FT 9/11/24). What an irony! Wonder how these Indo-Fijians in the diaspora became fabulously rich? Could that be because of their hard honest work on account of which they were scapegoated in that coup? Fiji’s loss is clearly other countries gain. That makes me sad for my home country.

Rajend Naidu, Sydney, Australia COP29 delegation On August 14, 2019 Greta Thunberg, Climate Activist travelled to New York in a solar powered yacht to take part in two major Climate Summits held at UN Headquarters. She refused to take a gas – guzzling plane. The irony is that, the sailing team that took Greta from England to USA flew two crew members across the Atlantic to bring the yacht back.

Thus, the benefit of less carbon emissions was nullified by these two crew members. Deputy PM and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad should be aware of the fact that taking a 55-member delegation to Baku, Azerbaijan is not only expensive, but the carbon emissions arising will be huge and permanent. I request that he considers a solar powered boat trip through the Persian Gulf and Iran with a smaller delegation if possible.

Recently, a relative of mine employed by a UN Agency visited my home. Upon enquiry, I was informed that organisations that submit proposals receive funding. Otherwise, they attended mostly workshops where there is lots of tea, coffee and snacks.

I replied, “that I can observe”. Rakesh Chand Sharma, Nadi True testament THE almost finished Fiji Law Society building along McGregor Rd and the GCC building at Nasese that was both mysteriously burned down during the toxic authority of the previous leadership is a dynamic breakthrough and true testament of the people’s solidarity and resilience. AREKI DAWAI, Suva People never learn There was a great deal of exuberance when Britons voted for Brexit.

There was a great deal of exuberance when FijiFirst was voted out. There is a great deal of exuberance in many quarters about the Trump win. Given time, there was Brexit regret, the exuberance in Fiji was lost a longtime ago with Rabuka regret and then there will be Trump regret this time next year – in the next twelve months.

It is not rocket science? It is just that people never learn. Jan Nissar, Sydney, Australia Cinema rules Div Damodar, can you tell me why I cannot sit where I want to sit in your cinema. Your manager on duty informs me he is just following the rules.

I patronise your cinemas weekly. This is the first time I’ve been told I can’t sit in the vacant seats I want to sit in. This stinks! Tai Smith Nasinu Sec Sch Rd, Kinoya Donald played Trump right Rajnesh Ishwar Lingam (FT 9/11) is very impressed by Donald Trump’s democratic election win.

We recall from history that Hitler too came to power through a democratic election win and maintained an illusion of democracy as the Nazis descended into dictatorship with all that its reign in power entailed ( see “How did the Nazi gain power? 1933 elections” The Weiner Holocaust Library). Dennis Fitzgerald (FT9/11) is right in pointing out many are worried about the path Trump will follow given his ultra right ideological bent. Rajend Naidu, Sydney, Australia.
