Letters, Oct. 30, 2024: 'Mind the snow'

Snow fools Doesn’t anyone find it strange climate activists aren’t out in full force explaining how a recent snowfall in southern Alberta is proof-positive climate change is real, or do they realize Mother Nature does what she wants? What the snowfall did prove is a lot of people have no idea what they’re doing when they get behind the wheel. Why can’t people take an extra minute and properly clear the snow off their windows, especially the big one in front? Why can’t they turn on their driving lights? When did ‘Stop’ signs become a suggestion? I’m assuming their indicator fluid is running low because a lot of turn signals don’t appear to work. As if I drive using telepathy.

Driving up and down hills is a joke. Snow tires appear to be an after-the-fact revelation. What is truly amazing is there was a snowfall advisory Saturday night, but in a world where everyone wears an electronic leash, too many people didn’t think it would affect them.

What I do know, is nothing will change between now and the next time Mother Nature comes for a visit. PAUL BAUMBERG (A timely reminder to drive according to the conditions.) PM’s plan doesn’t add up Although egregious, Trudeau’s escalating carbon taxes are only a small part of his radical, ideologically driven green agenda.

The Trudeau government has boasted that since 2015 it has committed $160 billion to climate spending! Imagine what that mind-boggling sum would have done to eradicate the health care and affordable housing crises! Then, adhering to the dictates of the WEF, Trudeau wants to reach zero carbon emissions by 2035. This to be accomplished by forcing Canadians from their fossil fuel-powered vehicles and into electric ones. To that end Trudeau has enriched foreign companies, e.

g.Honda, Volkswagen, Northvolt, Stellantis, General Motors and Ford by tens of billions to build electric batteries and/or electric vehicles in Canada. LARRY COMEAU (And seemingly accomplished little in the way of lowering emissions.

) Deranged Just when I’d nearly given up on newspapers along comes a young syndicated columnist, Josh Hammer, who referred to Donald Trump as “the people’s billionaire,” making him “a class traitor.” (“Trump, class traitor par excellence,” Oct. 26) All those who suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome would be well advised to read Hammer’s column.

It is refreshing to hear someone dare to say we need men who hold “elite” ruling class status, but whose hearts, minds and sensibilities are with the country class. Thanks for publishing this dude and for making me aware of him! JAKE VANDERKOOY (It’s a sickness).
