Denver in 2000 was a pretty quiet place to live. Bill Owens was the Govenor, Wellington Webb was Mayor of Denver and Paul Tauer was Mayor of Aurora. The population of Denver was approximately 500,000 and Aurora was 275,000.
The population in the state at the time was 4.3 mil., George W Bush was President of the United States.
Fast forward to 2024. The state population is 5.9 mil.
The state has grown by 1.6 million people. Jared Polis was elected in 2018 and reelected in 2022.
The unfortunate death of George Floyd and Covid created some new opportunities for the Colorado state and local governments to force its will on the people of Colorado. Defund the police, riots downtown, and destruction of private and public property with no one being accountable for anything. Joe Biden was elected in 2020.
As natives of Colorado living on the front range, we have had to deal with substantial change in our way life. We have watched outsiders come into the state that do not have the same values or political beliefs. Colorado used to be strong conservative state.
As native tax paying citizens, we have witnessed the destruction of the oil and gas industry as we know it, based on the claims of, first global warming and now climate change to date, with no published facts that the oil and gas business contributed to any of it. Next comes the attack on coal mines and coal-fired power plants that deliver cheap and very secure electricity to our state. The very things that built our State into a once economic powerhouse such as agriculture, mining (coal, silver, gold, etc.
), oil and gas, manufacturing, and coal fired power plants are now being regulated to death. No matter what the Govenor and his liberal, progressive regime does, it will not change the history of our once great State of Colorado. It has become so obvious that corrupt elite limousine liberals are running the State of Colorado.
Polis, Tim Gill, Pat Stryker, and Rutt Bridges. Polis and his husband Marion Reis have destroyed the oil and gas business and are now actively trying to stop hunting in the state along with the reintroduction of wolves. Recently the Denver City Council approved a contract 24-1263 for $1.
2 million to provide site operations and services for transgender and non-binary people. What is that? As we watch the roads, streets and highways deteriorate, the Govenor continues to take the money from the highways and build more bike and pedestrian infrastructure. People in Colorado have to wake up.
The liberal progressives have ruined our State. It is clear how the millions of dollars they have spent for their own agendas has changed our once great State into a liberal, progressive crumbling mess. Trig Travis Denver Vince Bdzek’s decrying the possible end of the caucus system in Colorado in the event that Proposition 131 (all-candidate primaries and Ranked-Choice Voting for certain general elections) is misplaced.
First, a small single-digit percentage of the population attends these meetings and they have too great an impact on political outcomes. Second, those who do are not representative of the electorate; indeed the fringe-nature of the causes are part of the reason that we get such fringe candidates all too often. (And these days the party Assembly isn’t much better.
) Indeed, the caucus system is such a mess than there have been serious conversations about eliminating it prior to the current discussion about modifying our voting systems. As long as Vince is longing for the past, he might as well hope for the return of I Love Lucy, big station wagons with wood paneling, 100-pound televisions, and Studebakers. Ross Kaminsky Greenwood Village We expect a high school degree for most jobs; shouldn’t a member of Congress have one? Lauren Boebert doesn’t.
Add her embarrassing Beetle Juice incident where, dressed like an expensive hooker, she was ejected from a theater for “fondling” and vaping, and we see a troubled teen turned troubled adult—an embarrassment. Conservatives believe they have character, but apparently Boebert doesn’t. Many conservatives are Christian, yet Boebert reportedly told a Christian conference that if Jesus had an AK-47, he wouldn’t have gotten crucified.
She doesn’t have a clue about Christianity, and instead of God, she worships assault weapons. Conservatives value tradition and the past, but Boebert has no respect for the Constitution or almost 250 years of American democracy. She’s an avowed insurrectionist itching for civil war, a poster girl for American fascism who’s more interested in indulging her narcissistic need for attention than in being a public servant.
Paul Dougan Boulder I’ve been a Republican my entire life and proudly represented Jefferson County in the State Legislature as a Republican, but my loyalty has always been to Colorado and our country before any political party. Currently, our political parties and a small group of party insiders have far too much power to decide who represents us in elected office. Prop 131 changes that.
Prop 131 creates truly open primaries where every voter can choose to vote for any candidate they want for every office representing them. The top four vote getters advance to the general election, where every voter would rank them in order of their preference. Prop 131 gives power back to the people, where it belongs.
Join me in voting Yes on 131. Colin Larson Littleton.
