Colorado’s culture of death

The election is over and the voters of Colorado have enshrined “abortion at any time during pregnancy” into the Colorado Constitution. In addition, taxpayer funds may now be used to pay for the procedure. Supporters euphemistically call it “Reproductive Freedom or Right, “a woman’s choice,” or “Reproductive Health.

” No one is trying to interfere with their ability to reproduce. In fact, those against abortion encourage the birth of the unborn child. I find it a bit ironic that the supporters of abortion on demand are living, breathing human beings who were not subject to abortion.

In fact, their mothers and fathers chose life, and I’m guessing that all these abortion supporters are grateful that they did. They have had the opportunity to enjoy life, to have relationships, to enjoy a good meal, a vacation, a sunset. On the other hand, those that were never given the opportunity to be born and enjoy life, aren’t here to let us know what they think of abortion on demand.

It’s amazing that we can vote to use taxpayer dollars to do something to others that we wouldn’t want to have done to ourselves. The tyranny of the majority has created an environment for the “culture of death” in Colorado. R.

Theodore Roth Monument I read with interest the Editorial Board’s comments on the defeat of the school choice amendment. As expected the board used this opportunity to attack a favorite boogyman, teachers unions. The reality is there is no need for this amendment.

Colorado parents can send their children to any school they want to. This proposed amendment was a chance to get the camel’s nose under the edge of the tent. The camel would then worm its way into the tent to take taxpayers dollars to support a voucher program.

I lived in Arizona for years, and the voucher program there cost taxpayers millions and millions of dollars and promoted fraud like trips to Hawaii for the home-schooled. The reality is that voucher programs are promoted as benefiting school choice for children in marginal schools. Vouchers are really welfare for the wealthy.

The vouchers don’t provide enough money to cover the cost of tuition at private schools so the economically challenged cannot use them. The result is that they are a subsidy for the affluent who would send their kids to private schools anyway. Joe E.

Smith Colorado Springs Getting a little tired of these liberal youngsters who think life is such a game that they can indulge their fantasy dreams while letting the government support them, and the wealthy and elitist Democrats who get paid very well for doing very little. Conservatives generally work hard to get by, and support the others through their taxes. The other day I was in the bank and overheard a healthy-looking white guy with a ponytail saying “no, I don’t have a job, why would I want to work?” Imagine that! I talk to liberals making six digits or more salaries who claim to sleep or play their way through their jobs, while the rest of us buy their products for highly inflated prices.

What has become of society? I’m tired of being scorned and labeled a Nazi or fascist. It’s time to take this country back from the brink of nonexistence. Raymond Lisle Jr.

Colorado Springs As an unaffiliated voter who didn’t vote for Donald Trump, I was initially dismayed to see him elected president. Then I realized how many chuckles I would get listening to elected Republican officials and Trump supporters talk about cracking down on crime and criminals. George Duncan Monument In all the election results talk, there isn’t much said about Congress.

The Republicans will control the Senate but will still need to work across the aisle, I hope, and I hope that they can do things that will benefit all Americans. We don’t know the results for the House yet, but their performance the last couple years has been terrible. The Freedom Caucus, with Gaetz, Boebert, Greene, etc.

, was a clown show that couldn’t accomplish anything, even fighting about funding the government. It will be interesting to see if that situation improves with Donald Trump in office, but with no big majority for either party. Rob Watt Colorado Springs Thank God it’s over.

What a wild ride! We have survived the most corrupt, manipulated, dishonest and undemocratic election ever witnessed in my lifetime of 80-plus years. Thank God the American people didn’t buy what the Democrat Party was selling. Respect for our country, democracy, established values, and common sense has prevailed.

This is a great opportunity to restore our country. Many thanks to voters. Cindy Cowlishaw Falcon.
