Letter: Tulsa World coverage implies voter recounts are a waste of time

Every candidate has a right to a challenge when the circumstances warrant — for a fee, says Tulsa resident Bill Flynn.

The multiple Tulsa mayoral election recount stories appear to me like a rehash of old news. The latest, similar to the others, that appears front page in the issue Sept. 14 stated that the taxpayers were on the hook for $39,923 ( "Taxpayers owe about $40,000 for ballot recount, Tulsa County Election Board says" ).

The tone and attention to the recount appears to say that this is a waste of time and we, the taxpayer, shouldn't have to be burdened. Every candidate has a right to a challenge when the circumstances warrant — for a fee. The Tulsa County Election Board did am admirable job as usual.

All these front-page articles stressing the cost seem to send a subliminal message not to interfere with the governing bodies. Print the news and not a veiled message. People are also reading.
