Letter: Tulsa streets during rain dangerous due to poor lane strips, reflective buttons

Bottomline, in the dark with heavy rain, the paint Tulsa and the state of Oklahoma use to stripe the highways is no good, says Mike Clark of Bartlesville.

Recently, I had the privilege of driving Oklahoma and Tulsa highways at night and in the rain. Are there lane stripes? I had planned to be north of Tulsa by the time it got dark. However, traffic and other events made me late.

Heavy clouds and rain also made it get dark earlier than expected. Bottomline, in the dark with heavy rain, the paint Tulsa and the state of Oklahoma use to stripe the highways is no good. Here are two suggestions: 1) Use a paint that reflects some light so our headlights will reflect some of the light back to the drivers.

2) Add small reflective buttons every 50 to 100 feet to reflect light in addition to the lane stripes. Maybe white reflectors for lane markers and amber reflectors for the edges of the driving surface. People are also reading.
