As students, we look towards those in our lives who foster both safety and excitement. We gravitate towards those whose care inspires. We strive to follow in the footsteps of those who seem fit to forge the path.
And in my life, Jake Johnson is one of these people. He is a person who supports his community, takes action, and aims for nothing less than greatness. ADVERTISEMENT Jake Johnson is someone who actively builds a safe community for all in his classroom, working tirelessly to help each student achieve their academic goals.
But more importantly, Mr. Johnson is also a role model for his students on the importance of caring about their community and the world around them. After I had taken a class with Mr.
Johnson, I ran into him volunteering at his son’s elementary school read-a-thon. He then invited me to speak at a community event he was organizing to advocate for a funding referendum for our school district. At this event, Mr.
Johnson facilitated a community environment where teachers, administrators, and students could all share their perspectives on the gaps in school funding. As Mr. Johnson began the panel, I remember feeling so inspired by the work he was doing to make Rochester a better place.
It is with my full heart that I say that Jake Johnson will be a fantastic advocate for students, teachers, parents, and our community alike in Congress. I hope you will get a chance to meet him and see in him what all his students have seen already. Sharai Liu, Rochester.
