Residents of Seri village, nestled in the scenic hills of Murree between Islamabad and Rawalpindi, are living in constant fear due to a surge in wild leopard attacks that have left many in financial distress. While the area is famed for its lush green forests and breathtaking views, these very forests have become a source of terror as ferocious leopards continue to emerge and attack livestock. In a recent incident, a leopard descended from the forest and mauled several goats belonging to an elderly resident while they grazed near the village.

Such attacks have become alarmingly frequent in the area, with nearly every household in Seri village reporting similar losses. For a community largely dependent on livestock for its livelihood, these encounters with wildlife are proving to be devastating. “The beauty of this place has become a curse,” said one resident.

“We’re afraid every day for our animals, our children, and ourselves.” Despite numerous complaints, villagers claim that their appeals to the Wildlife Department have been ignored. They are now urging higher authorities to intervene, provide protection, and offer compensation for the repeated losses they have endured.
