Lennon gives his verdict

After defeat in the NIHL Southern play-off semi-finals, Invicta Dynamos head coach Karl Lennon has been summing up his side’s campaign.

Head coach Karl Lennon has been reflecting on Invicta Dynamos’ “roller-coaster” season. The Dynamos were knocked out at the semi-final stage in the play-offs in disappointing fashion by NIHL South Division 1 champions Slough Jets, losing 11-2 across the weekend. It means the Jets are heading to the national finals in Sheffield to face Streatham Redhawks in the play-off showdown this Saturday.

Lennon said: “Like I’ve said to the players, it was a bit of a roller-coaster of a season at times. “We had some really good results. We beat Slough, the league champions, 4-3, and we got a result against Streatham, winning 3-2 last month.

“That has been the challenge for us. We have had some great moments - but that’s often been followed by poor or mixed moments before and after that. “We need more stability and consistency in our performances.

We cannot be too high or too low. “Roller-coaster is probably the word to use for our season. In the second half of the season, we performed better.

“I would have loved for us to get to the play-off final. I think, on our day, we would have been able to do that. But we didn’t have our best days at the weekend.

” In the home leg last Saturday, Mos went down 7-1, despite James Laming’s goal, before a 4-1 loss the next evening. Louis Colvin claimed the second-leg goal. “Honestly, it was quite a humbling weekend,” reflected Lennon.

“We came up against a team that was, far and away, better than us. We weren’t at our best. “Certainly, we didn’t reach the levels we had done in our quarter-final against Solent (second leg), which were outstanding.

That was disappointing in many ways. “We just struggled to get a foothold in the first game at all. They were very effective in how they played and our undoing really came in the second period.

“We just gave up too many three-on-ones and they scored three or four goals from them. Then, in the next game, in some ways, it was a bit of a formality for them. “A six-goal lead looked like an insurmountable one - and that proved to be the case.

” Attention now switches to the summer recruitment drive for Mos ahead of the 2025/26 season. Lennon said: “I’ve always said that, from the start of the season, we’re in the game of self-improvement. If we worry about other people, then we’re not going to improve.

“The areas we have identified to improve are quite obvious to us as a coaching team. “Last year, I saw some improvements but maybe, in other areas, we didn’t improve so well. “It’s about seeing improvements, not just in the areas that we need to get better in, but with our strengths, as well.

” Invicta Dynamos’ end-of-season presentation night at the Village Hotel, Maidstone, will take place on Saturday, April 26. Tickets are priced at £50 for a family (two adults and two children), £18 for adults and £10 for children, while under-4s get free entry. Go to https://invictadynamos.
