A council meeting accepted the public tender for the partial replacement of the stadium's roof, which will cost the Municipality of Leiria more than half a million euros. According to Carlos Palheira, the councillor responsible for Sports, this regards the entire five to six thousand square metre area in front of the central, east and west stands. As the mayor explained, “In the metal part, there is a need to replace an area that was damaged due to a storm we had some time ago and there is another part that is made of polycarbonate, which also has a useful life expectancy to fulfil its functions and which, however, is expiring.
Therefore, we need to speed up the process of renewing this roof itself”. The tender includes a base price of 565,500 euros, minus VAT, and a 90-day timeframe for contract work completion, according to the resolution that was unanimously accepted. The councillor also mentioned that replacing the metal portion of the sheets will likely cost about 90 thousand euros and require an investment of about 475 thousand euros for polycarbonate.
