Leicester City are said to have reignited their interest in Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed ahead of the January transfer window. The Egypt international was linked with City in the summer, with talks said to have been held on deadline day in August. His club were reportedly happy to sell, but no move came about before the window closed.
According to AfricaFoot, Nantes are once again “open” to Mohamed departing as attention turns to the new year. The French side are said to have placed a €10 million (£8.3m) price tag on his head.
The player himself has reportedly “expressed his wish” to head elsewhere when the winter window opens. And AfricaFoot have the King Power Stadium down as his most likely destination, saying City are “looking to sign him” to bolster manager Steve Cooper’s attacking ranks. Mohamed joined Nantes two years ago, initially on loan from Galatasaray before his switch became permanent.
He has found regular game time hard to come by this season, with all but four of his 10 Ligue 1 appearances coming from off the bench. In total, the 26-year-old has netted 17 league goals for the club in the past two years – although he has only one to his name this term. He is under contract until the summer of 2027.
On deadline day in the summer it was reported that City had entered “express negotiations” with Nantes over securing the forward’s signature. A Saudi Arabian club reportedly had a £12.5m offer accepted but Mohamed turned down the move as he was not keen on a switch to the Middle East.
Wolverhampton Wanderers and Marseille were also credited with an interest in him at the time..
