Leicester City’s hot streak in front of goal has not changed the club’s need for attacking additions with a new striker the overwhelming January priority, a LeicestershireLive poll has shown. City are one of just three teams, alongside Arsenal and Manchester City, to have scored in every Premier League game so far this season. They have managed to keep up such a record thanks to a clinical touch at the top end, with Steve Cooper’s side having taken the fewest shots in the division so far.

However, according to City supporters surveyed by LeicestershireLive, the strikeforce is the clearest position to strengthen in the new year. City have Jamie Vardy, Odsonne Edouard, and Patson Daka to choose from, but that’s not enough. A huge 67 per cent of respondents said that if City could only sign one player in January, it should be a striker.

Another 23 per cent voted for an attacking midfielder, with the remaining 10 per cent split across goalkeeper, centre-back, full-back, deep midfielder, and winger. The choices tallied with fans’ biggest worries over the season so far. Lack of creativity was the number one complaint, with 35 per cent of supporters saying it was the biggest concern over performances.

Despite the clinical edge the club are showing, finishing ranked as the next biggest worry, with 22 per cent of the vote. Where fans are impressed is with the determination on show, with 39 per cent of City fans saying it’s the most positive aspect of displays over the first seven Premier League games. Despite the club only keeping one clean sheet, 30 per cent of respondents said they were most pleased by the team’s defensive solidity.

Overall, City fans haven’t been too impressed by the campaign as a whole. On a scale of excellent-good-average-underwhelming-poor, just 12 per cent said the season had been either excellent or good so far, with 55 per cent deeming it underwhelming or poor. The results were similar for manager Steve Cooper.

Thirteen per cent rated the job he has done so far as excellent or good, with 56 per cent saying he’s been underwhelming or poor. Saying that, most fans think, as things stand, the club will stay up, which is the objective for this season. Only 24 per cent of supporters currently believe the club will finish in the relegation zone.

Two other survey questions unsurprisingly got one-sided answers. Asked for the player of the season so far, Mads Hermansen came out on top with 59 per cent of the vote. Facundo Buonanotte was in second with 19 per cent.

The Argentinian loanee was comfortably named the best signing of the summer though, receiving 69 per cent of the vote there. Centre-back Caleb Okoli was runner-up after establishing himself in the side, the Italian receiving 18 per cent of the vote..
