Legend Rick Astley thought Pete Waterman's SAW were firm of solicitors

Singing legend has revealed that he thought Stock Aitken Waterman were a firm of The 58-year-old, who got to No1 in 25 countries in 1987 with Never Gonna Give You Up, said he had no idea the trio were pop gurus. The dad-of-one said he actually thought they were a firm of solicitors when they first contacted him. Stock Aitken & Waterman, known as SAW or The Hit Factory, were made up of Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman, and responsible for a string of 80s and 90s hits.

Among the most famous include , Jason Donovan, Mel and Kim, and Sonia, with SAW notching up more than 100 top 40 hits, including 13 No1s, selling 400m records. Speaking this week, Rick said signing for SAW was his ‘best ever decision’. He said: “(My best ever decision) has to be signing that first deal with Pete Waterman, even though I didn’t have a clue who Stock Aitken & Waterman were.



“It sounded like a firm of solicitors.” He said he barely knew anything about SAW, but signed up anyway, saying “(I thought) Sod it, I’m just going to sign this thing anyway. “I’ll get to make a single in London and I’ll get to be in London for a bit.

“It was the best decision I ever made. They soon started having hit after hit - and they wrote their biggest hit for me.”.
