Legal Series Presumed Innocent Heads In New Direction For Season 2, Will Be Based On THIS Novel: Report

The second season of the Apple TV+ series Presumed Innocent won't be returning to the Scott Turrow sequel and its characters from the first season. Presumed Innocent, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, has become the most viewed drama series on Apple TV+. It was a no-brainer that the legal drama was renewed for a second season. However, the series which is executive produced by David E Kelley, JJ Abrams and actor Gyllenhaal, will not be returning to the original source material.

Instead, the series is heading in a bold new direction. Here's what we know so far. Presumed Innocent Season 2 to be based on another novelAccording to a report in Deadline, Apple TV+ and Warner Bros TV have bought the right of Jo Murray's first book Dissection of a Murder.



Like most limited series which are renewed for more seasons, Presumed Innocent will follow in the direction of shows like Beef and The White Lotus which return with all new characters. Dissection of a Murder will be published in spring 2026 by Pam Macmillan. The series will have a female lead as the book follows Leila Reynolds on her first murder case where she finds herself a bit overwhelmed.

To make matters more interesting, Leila's husband is the prosecutor on the case. And like the first season of Presumed Innocent, there will be buried secrets that emerge during the case. The series also starred Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, Elizabeth Marvel, Peter Sarsgaard, O-T Fagbenle and Renate Reinsve. The Times Now review of the series stated, "Jake Gyllenhaal headlines this chaotic but very bingeable series about a top Chicago prosecutor who finds himself constantly on the edge of madness. The eight-part series is a good-old fashioned legal drama, with enough twists and turns, to keep you pressing 'next episode'.
