TALKS of a division within the ruling The People’s Alliance party were diffused yesterday when several Cabinet ministers rallied behind Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and put up a firewall between themselves and those who want to hunt with the hounds and run with the foxes. Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica went a step further and called for the immediate resignation of ministers who wanted to split from the party. The swift rebuke from the government ministers follows Mr Rabuka’s statement that he had been told some members of his team wanted to form their own party for the 2026 General Election.

Mr Rabuka made the statement when queried by the media while attending the Tailevu Provincial Council on Wednesday. “Leave now and don’t let that door hit you on the way out,” Mr Kamikamica said. He also sounded a warning to those attempting to destabilise the Government and party that they would “be met with unwavering resolve”.
