It's about to get dark.

A new Helldivers 2 event has been leaked prior to its official announcement. While many fans are focused on the constantly leaked Illuminate enemy faction , Arrowhead is planning to thrust all players fighting for Super Earth into a realm of darkness. Discovered by renowned leaker Tier5NPC , a host of new additions are coming to Helldivers 2 soon.

However, the most interesting part of the recent leak revolves around the return of planetary eclipses, a map event that removes all natural light from the map. Helldivers eclipses return Just as seen in the original Helldivers game , HD2 is set to receive a new event that adds eclipses to existing planets. Spawning on a planet will see divers surrounded by pure darkness with only weapon flashlights, stratagem explosions, flares and the lights of Automaton foes to light up their surroundings.

In the current version of the game leakers are playing, Automaton forces are still able to detect divers when an eclipse is active “at a moderate distance despite the darkness surrounding them”. However, you also have an advantage as you’ll be able to see the bots’ glowing lights from across vast expanses of the map. The Helldivers 2 leaker explains that bug missions are easier as the Termanid scourge can’t see players in the darkness.

Furthermore, creating a bright fire with a stratagem like a napalm barrage will actually see bugs surround the light “like moths to the flame”. New Flare Stratagem Alongside the new planetary eclipse setting, Helldivers 2 will reportedly add in a new flare stratagem that can be called down to light up the environment. A free bonus stratagem that won’t take up a typical slot, flares can be called down instantly to make maps more playable.

In the current, unfinished build, the flares have a 30-second cooldown before another light can be shot from your super destroyer. Additionally, each flare lasts for 30-seconds as well. This means that the light can go out during a firefight, forcing you into terrifying darkness as you quickly attempt to call down a new flare.
