The non-banking financial services group Leadway has announced a relief package totalling N117 million to assist victims of the recent flood disaster in Borno State. The floods, which affected over a million residents, displaced thousands and caused significant damage to infrastructure and property, have left the state grappling with recovery efforts. According to Leadway, the financial support is aimed at easing the burden on affected communities and supporting the state’s efforts to rehabilitate displaced residents.

The company disclosed that its donation includes essential cooking supplies and hygiene products valued at N92 million, alongside N25 million in direct cash support to the Borno State relief fund and an NGO providing critical services to displaced persons. The items will be distributed to individuals identified by the Borno Flood Relief Project Committee. Speaking on the initiative, Group Chief Executive Officer of Leadway, Tunde Hassan-Odukale, said: “We deeply empathise with the people and government of Borno State during this difficult time.

The impact of the sudden disaster has been profound on the residents, who were gradually rebuilding their socio-economic stability after years of insecurity in the region. We believe every effort counts in alleviating the hardship of those affected, and we are pleased to join in efforts to ease their difficulties.” Hassan-Odukale emphasised that Leadway’s commitment extends beyond financial relief, stating: “Our role as a firm goes beyond providing financial support; it’s about being a trusted partner who stands with communities in challenging times.

This donation symbolises our solidarity with the people of Borno and our commitment to helping them rebuild their lives. We are dedicated to supporting Nigeria’s journey of resilience.” He further revealed that Leadway is set to honour claims from three businesses crucial to Borno State’s economic recovery, to accelerate the restoration of commercial activities in the region.

“We trust that, through the diligent efforts of the Relief Committee, these resources will reach those in need swiftly and effectively,” Hassan-Odukale added.
