This year, the three finalists are Lay's Bacon Grilled Cheese, Lay's Valentina & Lime, and Lay's Wavy Korean-Style Fried Chicken.

Oklahoma resident Paula George was the mastermind behind bacon grilled cheese, which she created to honor the memory of her late father and his bacon grilled cheese recipe. Araceli Huerta from San Jose, California , created his spicy Valentina & Lime recipe after being inspired by his favorite childhood snack. Over in the Southeastern US, Virginia resident Neleia Lynn created her Korean-Style Fried Chicken recipe thinking about her family's time in South Korea .



Fans interested in trying all flavors can do so by purchasing a bag online and in stores from April 21 to June 13. Customers rooting for one specific flavor can then vote online for their favorite. The winner will earn $1 million and join the ranks of elite chip flavors, while the first and second runner-up will each take home $50,000.

Participants were allowed to submit up to 10 ideas every day until February 21.

From there, a judging panel would look at all the recipes and trim the submissions down to three finalists. Once they're trimmed down, the recipes go to Frito's-Lay's experts, who bring the final ideas to life one potato chip bag at a time. 'We are always looking to our consumers to inspire the next great flavor of Lay's, and Do Us A Flavor is the most direct and authentic way to do so!' said Denise Truelove, senior vice president, marketing, PepsiCo Foods.

'As a leader in flavor and innovation, only Lay's can turn a great idea from our fans into a delicious potato chip in record time.' The contest was open to all US residents who were 18 or older. Lay's also celebrated the contest by releasing five fan-favorite flavors that were part of previous contests for a limited time.

Neleia Lynn was inspired by her family's time in South Korea while Paula George created her recipe to honor her late father The first contest took place in 2012, and occurred in 2014, 2015, and 2017. Millions of fans submitted their ideas over the years, but only one winner came out on top each time. The first ever flavor winner was Cheesy Garlic Bread, while its second was the Kettle-Cooked Wasabi Ginger.

The popular chip brand then crowned Southern Biscuits & Gravy and Crispy Taco the 2015 and 2017 winners. Cheesy Garlic Bread, Southern Biscuits & Gravy, and Crispy Taco are three of the five potato chips available in stores for a limited time. The other flavors available now for a limited time is the 2012 finalist Chicken & Waffles and the 2017 runner-up Fried Green Tomato.
